High School Students Pass Bill to Allow EC to be Sold Over the Counter
Some very smart high school students at the annual Youth Legislative Assembly in Raleigh on Sunday, March 26 debated bills and worked to pass good legislation in a mock legislative process that is now in its 36th year.
One of the bills that passed was a bill to allow emergency contraception to be sold over the counter.
Emergency contraception has been recommended for over the counter use by teams of experts at the FDA for several years. However, the Bush Administration has blocked its approval. As a result, fewer women in the US have access thus leading to the need for more abortions.
NARAL in NCis working to increase accessiblity in our state. It is so gratifying to hear that young people have recognized the importance of this contraceptive and making it widely available.
Now if only our real elected officials in NC would follow in their footsteps!
