NARAL Pro-Choice America Applauds Capture of Domestic Terrorist/Atlanta Bomber Eric Rudolph

Washington, DC — NARAL Pro-Choice America applauds the capture of domestic terrorist Eric Rudolph and salutes the local, state and federal law enforcement professionals who have pursed him so determinedly over these last years. America will not tolerate terrorism either foreign or domestic and when our freedoms and constitutional liberties are threatened through murder and harassment, we will not rest until justice is served.
But our fight for freedom and pursuit of justice does not stop today. Sadly there still exists in this country a climate of hatred and intolerance, especially against those who work at and those who use women's health clinics. Some who claim to "promote life" use death, destruction, hatred and harassment to shutdown clinics and deny women the freedom and privacy they need to exercise their constitutional rights.
We hope that the Administration and the leaders of Congress will use the capture of Eric Rudolph as a catalyst to move forward legislation which strengthens protections for health care workers and women and the clinics they visit. The Supreme Court's recent decision to overturn NOW v. Scheidler this February removed strong legal means that could be used against domestic terrorists who attack clinics and intimidate women and families who use them. We need to hear more from President Bush and his Administration as how we can ensure that another Eric Rudolph does not come forward. Our nation must send a message loud and clear that will be heard around the world that we will not tolerate violence and murder and that those who attack our constitutional freedoms and rights will suffer swift justice.
