In Our State

NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina, the political arm of the pro-choice movement, mobilizes hundreds of supporters across the state to get involved in the political process. Our political activities range from contacting legislators to support or oppose legislation, to working on campaigns to increase the number of pro-choice legislators representing you at the NC General Assembly. It is an important time to be focused on choice. At the national level, the damage of the Bush Administration and its anti-choice allies will last long after his term expires. The Supreme Court heard arguments on the federal abortion ban in November 2006, and we expect to hear a ruling sometime this summer. If the ban is upheld, it could outlaw abortion as early as the 12th week of pregnancy, with no exception for a woman’s health and criminal penalties for doctors. However, the voters spoke in November 2006 and made it clear that they support choice at the federal and state level. Here in North Carolina, we expanded our pro-choice majority in the State House and Senate. We are excited to work with all of you in 2007 to promote common-sense, pro-choice legislation.
