Reports to: NARAL Pro-Choice NC Civic Engagement Coor. Location: Charlotte, NC Summary: The organizer is responsible for executing NARAL Pro-Choice NC's programs in the greater Charlotte area. This includes building support for legislative goals by identifying and mobilizing volunteers, building coalitions, list-building and membership recruitment. Responsibilities also include community education and outreach on reproductive rights issues. This position is for ten months to one year with the option of extension. Responsibilities: List Building • Develop and implement metro-area strategy for growing NARAL NC’s capacity through list building. Setting monthly or quarterly goals is necessary.
Volunteer Management/Community Organizing • Implement plans for Charlotte area grassroots organizing, including phone banks, tabling, indirect lobbying, etc. • Coordinating educational outreach with public schools, campus and community groups • Manage all aspects of community outreach events, including some materials development, volunteer recruitment, training and execution of civic engagement activities Interns • Work to get NARAL approved as internship opportunity at Charlotte area Colleges and Universities • Be prepared to recruit, supervise interns within the agency on appropriate projects
Membership Development/Fundraising
• Aggressive membership recruitment is critical to this role. Encouraging people to become financial supporters at any level, but hopefully to get scores of new members each month. Drive membership toward monthly givers. • Look for new opportunities for contributions from large donors and small businesses, “wish list” items Public Speaking • Deliver stock presentation for engaging larger community in our sex-ed work. • Be the primary contact for all requests to make presentations, appear on panels, and represent NARAL NC to public forums in Charlotte area. • Possibly work with media, including drafting news releases and contacting the media and updating media list.
Communications
• Use social network sites to mobilize volunteers and supporters to action.
